WHY?
The volunteer hour requirement was established to help HST maintain our low tuition. Since HST’s programs cost about half of what comparable after-school programs cost, we depend on the INCREDIBLE volunteer support of our parents. We have a required MINIMUM number of hours, but we could NOT maintain tuition if everyone just did the minimum.

HOW MANY HOURS?
  • The MINIMUM requirement is per FAMILY - not per student.
  • Troupe families (at least one child in a troupe) must do a minimum of 20 hours + 1 lobby job.
  • Families who ONLY have Showcase performers must do a minimum of 15 hours + 1 lobby job.
  • Families who ONLY have tech & costume students must do a minimum of 5 hours + 1 lobby job.
  • Families who ONLY have students in Young Tappers or Overture do NOT have volunteer hours.
  • Parents keep track of hours & submit form by Jan. 21, 2009. Jobs that are signed up for but not yet completed get listed on form. Fine is assessed if volunteer doesn't show up or send a substitute.
WAYS TO VOLUNTEER?
Parents have many opportunities to volunteer. These opportunities are explained and signed up for at our Mandatory Parent/Student Meeting in September. Parents help sew costumes, build sets, transport props, stuff envelopes, solicit ads, help with fundraising events, etc.

WHO KEEPS TRACK OF THE HOURS?
HST uses an honor system for volunteer hours. Families record the hours they have spent and the hours they are signed up to work for on the volunteer report form. The forms are due in January 21, 2009.

WHAT HAPPENS IF YOU DON'T FULFILL YOUR REQUIREMENT?
  • Families are assessed $10/hour for incomplete hours for those who complete at least ½ of their required hours.
  • Families are assessed $20/hour for incomplete hours for those who complete less than ½ of their required hours.
  • Families who sign up for volunteer lobby jobs during performances and do not show up OR arrange for a substitute will be assessed $50.
  • All assessments must be paid before ticket orders or registrations can be processed.
